Public Services will begin delivering the new trash and recycling carts on Monday, April 15, 2019. Distribution will start with certain sections of the lower East Side in the Borough of Conshohocken and will continue until complete. Residents will receive further details as to which week their block is scheduled for cart delivery. Notification will be made through mail and will also be posted to the Borough’s website and social media outlets.

Q: I already own a roll cart trashcan. Do I need to accept the Borough issued carts?
A: If you are currently utilizing roll cart trash and recycle carts you may continue to use your existing cart(s). Acceptable carts must include 2 wheels, a metal lift bar, and an attached lid. If you would like to opt out of receiving a trash and/or recycle cart because you are already utilizing one please contact Public Services at 610-828-1092. If you have any questions regarding acceptable carts please do not hesitate to contact us.
Q: Why do I have to use the new trash and recycle carts?
A: The trash and recycle carts were purchased as part of the Borough’s overall plan to increase the safety of our Public Services workers and decrease costs by reducing worker’s compensation claims due to injuries related to heavy lifting of trashcans and recycle bins.
Q: When should I start using my new trash and recycle carts?
A: Please begin using them right away!
Q: What should I do with my old trashcans and recycle bins?
A: If you wish to dispose of your old cans, please leave them UPSIDE DOWN at the curb on your designated trash days. Our Public Services crew will pick them up in a separate truck. You may also designate your blue recycle bin as a bin for yard waste disposal. The Borough can provide you with a sticker to affix to the recycle bin if you choose to do this.
Q: How do I obtain an additional trash or recycle cart?
A: Once initial delivery of the carts is completed, additional carts will be made available for purchase for $54.00 each. An order form will be posted to our website or you can call 610-828-1092.
*Reminder: Please make sure to bag all trash in traditional trash bags prior to placing it in the cart. All trash must be placed inside your cart. Recyclables should be place loosely in the recycle cart (not in plastic bags).
Q: What if I need special accommodations?
A: Please contact Allison Flounders at the Borough Administration office, 610-828-1092. Please note: Borough Administration reserves the right to review and approve requests for special accommodations.
Q: How will the Borough keep track of the carts that are being distributed?
A: Every cart comes with a RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) and serial number that can be read with a handheld device. These numbers are specifically assigned to your home address. This will help us to track down missing or stolen carts. We ask that you keep a record of the serial number on your carts.
Q: Will my collection day remain the same?
Q: Are the carts the Borough’s property? Will the Borough complete any necessary repairs to these carts?
A: Yes. In the event you move, the carts should remain at the house for use by the next resident.The Borough is responsible for the repair of the carts. Please contact the Public Services department at 610-828-1092 if your cart is in need of repair. The Borough reserves the right to charge the owner or occupant a fee for any necessary repair or replacement due to the owner or occupants abuse, misuse, or neglect of the cart.
Q: What should I do if my cart is lost or stolen?
A: Please call Public Services at 610-828-1092. Additionally, a police report should be be filed immediately upon vandalism or theft.
